Today the Florida Legislature will conclude the special session on property insurance. However, they will be meeting the rest of the week – holding interim committee meetings.
The House committees will generally be hearing presentations from committee staff or executive branch agencies. Most of the Senate committees are doing the same.
The Senate Committee on Military Affairs and Domestic Security will hear two interesting bills: SB 92 by Sen. Carey Baker (R-Eustis) will create a permanent 12-day sales-tax holiday on certain hurricane preparedness supplies starting on the last Sunday in May of each year. SB 156 by Sen. Steven Geller (D-Hallandale Beach) will expand the definition of “veteran” to include those who served in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, giving them the benefits afforded to all veterans in Florida law.
I will have another list of interesting bills later this week.
