Florida House GOP approves Sansom’s resignation, selects Cretul as speaker designate

Watching the Florida Channel tonight, the Florida House Republican Conference took the bold step to formally replace former Speaker Ray Sansom as the leader of the House of Representatives. Following proper procedure, formal motions were adopted to waive the Conference rules allowing Sansom’s resignation to be accepted and to nominate a new leader.

This was, of course, merely a formality. News had broken earlier today that Representative Larry Cretul, the most recent Speaker Pro-Tempore, would be the official designee. Cretul was the only nominee.

He will be formally be elected Speaker on Tuesday, March 3rd – the first day of the 2009 Legislative Session.
