Ron Paul endorses Mark Cross for RPOF Chairman
December 18, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Mark Cross is a personal friend of mine and in my opinion would make a fine RPOF Chairman if elected by the Republican State Committee. We serve together on the Republican Liberty Caucus of Florida board. I am currently an At-large member and Mark is the Treasurer. Mark is an accountant by trade and served [...]

Republicans must work better together in Florida
December 9, 2008 | Leave a Comment
I am in a unique position to report on the development of the post-Bush Republican Party in Northwest Florida, one of the most conservative parts of the nation. There is a strong military presence here. McCain won here, with over 56,600 votes to Obama’s 23,600, despite no real monetary support($5,000) from RPOF (Republican Party of [...]

I asked myself a few questions as a Republican…
November 18, 2008 | 2 Comments
What are the lessons you learned from the 2008 McCain campaign in Bay County, Florida?
I learned that we have a lot of highly motivated, well-informed and enthusiastic volunteers, led by Teresa Eaton, Glen Leirer and Melissa Hagan, that really rose to the occasion when money was hard to come by in difficult economic times. They [...]

Amendment 5 debate in Panama City
August 14, 2008 | Leave a Comment
I attended the Amendment 5 debate on August 13 at Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City. Senator Haridopolis (R-Indiatlantic) was there to represent the opposition to this constitutional amendment known as the “tax swap” amendment. He began his remarks discussing the phrase “holding education harmless”. The Florida Legislature will have to find $11 billion [...]

Twitter and #dontgo
August 13, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Have you been following the #dontgo movement on Twitter? I have, and it has been an excellent use of the 2-year old service. As a Florida resident I feel that this a crucial issue for our state and that the choice to drill offshore is THE issue this election season. I personally support drilling offshore [...]

Hastings Proposes Larger Congress
June 15, 2008 | 2 Comments
So, an impeached and convicted federal judge, elected to Congress, has proposed what amounts to a good idea. Even a blind squirrel can find a nut now and then.
To be sure, I am not a fan of Congressman Alcee Hastings. Some of his ideas make him seem like a complete wack-job. However, [...]

It Oughta Be a Law… One of the best Ideas I’ve Ever Seen
February 9, 2007 | 6 Comments
In 2005, State Representative Kevin Ambler (R-Lutz) had a great idea: the It Oughta Be a Law contest. The idea is get high school students involved in the legislative process by letting them actually propose legislation. In my years working in the legislature (including two with Rep. Ambler), this is by far the best idea [...]

Quick Post on Presidential Primaries…
February 9, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Earlier this week, I posted that I thought the free-for-all with every state trying to get to the head of the pack was a bad idea.
Larry Sabato has said the same thing:
If the job of scheduling the presidential nominating contests were assigned to an insane asylum, this is pretty much what the patients would [...]

Cutting Back on Gas Consumption - Can Florida Do It?
January 24, 2007 | 3 Comments
I missed the State of the Union last night. Well, not missed so much as avoided. Go figure, a political blogger who actually didn’t want to watch the president’s speech. I suppose it’s because my interest, and thus this blog, tend more to the state level. Besides, how many national bloggers [...]
